Have strong extracurriculars, grades and essays come second. Don't be modest, even if you only played soccer, or key club, or whatever for just a semester, let them know.

I don't know why everyone seems to think youJan 05 2005Undecided
I don't know why everyone seems to think you just need a high SAT/ACT score and some "average SAT" score to get in. And no, it's not easier to get in summer b--so get that myth out of your head. You need to be well rounded. You need to write a killer essay, you need to be very well rounded with extracurricular activities with long committments, and several recommendations that will highlight you. Don't think, "Oh I've been a wrestling captain for four years..," some SGA member, and what not will get you in--cause it won't. Sorry to be harsh, but I'm tired of silly applicants thinking they can slide into UF without workign for it first.

it's competitive but pretty easy if you have the right test scores/grades. like most big state schools, they dont care as much about extracurriculars and essays. i got a free ride with 33 ACT, 1490 sat's(800M, 690V)and a 3.7 gpa. i also sent em my sat 2's even thought they're not required cos i did really well on them(perfect in math, bio, chem, a 780 in physics and a 700 writing). had to go cos my parents arent that well off financially and didnt get a good enough financial aid package from my first choice private school.

My freshman year in HJun 02 2003Business - Management and Administration
My freshman year in H.S. was a disaster--2.0 at best. Well the next three years I busted my ass, joined JROTC, Sea Cadets, and community service. Also I was on the track team, basketball team, and cross country. I took the harder classes my Junior and Senior years, with College English at the local C.C. on Wednesday nights for college credit. I really put some time in my essays, and found my favorite teacher and begged him to write me the best possible rec. letter possible. Then I went early decision(Oct. 1st)and checked off that I wanted to start in Summer Term B. Then I prayed. UF AVG SAT is 1300 and 3.9 GPA, with 25,000 apps. and 6500 ultimately get in. Well, I made it with a 1100 SAT, and 3.1 GPA---It just goes to show that they do want a diverse campus, and not just bookworms.
ACT: 21 SAT: 1100 Female
Fortunately, I was accepted to UF in '99 beforeJan 08 2003Journalism
Fortunately, I was accepted to UF in '99 before they changed their admissions process and I did not have to write an essay. My college admissions process was very easy: I took the SAT once and not the ACT, visited one school (UF),applied to one school (UF) and signed a little piece of paper for the 100% Bright Futures Scholarship. I recommend applying early acceptance. I also recommend starting during the summer (right after you graduate). Summer B term is a great chance to get some classes out of the way, meet people and get used to life at UF. It was one of the best summers I have had.
